Dear Brother Feng,
Thankyou for your interest in the work AWF in Asia. Yes, Taiwan Alliance could play a very important role in the AWF. There are three projects in process at this time which are in need of financial assistance.
First, one of the objectives of APAC is "Training". We are in partnership with Operation Mobilisation, Wycliffe Bible Translators and SIM in what has become known as the International Training Association (ITA). ITA offers training in various skills including, biblical relationships, communication, ministry, motivation, public relations, creative thinking and life management. These skills we find are often not taught in bible college or seminary. Our goal is to train a pool of 'trainers' within Asia who will in turn, offer the training to pastors in each of the fifteen Alliance national churches. Recently we trained two key leaders from the Christian and Missionary Alliance of the Philippines (CAMACOP). One of them will now become a 'trainer-in-training' at a course to be offered in Hyderabad, India December 1-15. We need funds to help him with his airfare Manila/Hyderabad return. His name is Rev Delfin Bangilan. He is a Regional Director of CAMACOP and is in charge of 140 churches in north Luzon. He is 41 years of age and describes the training he received in Cebu recently as "a rocket milestone in my life". His wife will accompany him. My church here in Brisbane will cover the cost of her airfare. I am currently waiting on the Field Director in Manila to let me the know the cost of a return airfare from Manila to Hyderabad.
Second, the Unreached People Group Roundtable in BKK recently agreed to share the responsibility of supporting a new cooperative missions partnership. This will be a team of two couples. The "lead" couple will be experienced Canadian missionaries acting as Facilitators for the partnership. The second couple will be from CAMACOP and will be in training to become Facilitators. This couple will be in need of some fiscal support, as will the entire project once an evangelisation strategy is in place.
Third, the role of Regional Coordinator which I fill, is currently unfunded. My church here in Brisbane, graciously allows me six weeks each year to travel and do the work. However the work is developing rapidly and there will be a need in the next two or three years for my role to increase. The Regional Committee has set a goal to take up the salary for the RD within the next three years. In order to do this we will be requesting the national churches of Asia to consider making an annual fiscal contribution to help achieve this goal. For example, if six national churches would pledge $3000 US per annum, we could fully support a Regional Coordinator by 2005.We will be putting this challenge to the churches in Japan, Korea, Hong Kong, New Zealand, Australia and Taiwan.
In the near future we will be announcing the new web address. This will become an important further communication medium for the region.
The APAC Committee is already looking beyond Thailand for more Unreached People Groups. We have considered the possibility of a ministry to reach Indonesian construction workers in Taiwan. What do you think of this idea? We are also giving consideration to the commencement of a new ministry to East Timor. The Alliance of Indonesia had a church in Dili, the capital city, but since the Indonesians left the province the church has not functioned.
One of our next projects will be to identify in each national church those young people who have trained for and are approved for cross-cultural ministry. In this way we hope to gather a pool of trained personnel who will form the new teams to reach UPG's.
Thankyou again for your interest. If any of the above projects are of interest to the Taiwan Alliance I will be happy to hear from you.
Every Blessing,
Roger
